Home Renovation

Downtown Condo

Dreams keep us going. I’ve always dreamt of living in Downtown Memphis and lucky for me, my wife had a similar dream. We decided to keep our eye on the market and put out feelers to sell our place; two weeks later, we fell in love with a fixer-upper.

South Main Gallery Condominiums
417 South Main was one of the first downtown buildings converted into a residential building in the 1980s. This condo was owned by a part-time resident of Memphis, who used it as a hotel. Katie, my wife, wouldn’t look at this FSBO because it was packed with oversized furniture on top of the office carpet. She trusted my adventurous spirit; I convinced her of its potential I saw.

The before

We knew a major renovation would not be feasible since Katie was in the middle of law school ($$$) at the time. We tackled projects like tearing out the carpet, installing 16 new light fixtures, staging art, hanging new doors, configuring new closet systems, painting cabinets, and setting up a smart home system, including a fingerprint lock for our front door. We hired professionals to lay new vinyl plank flooring.
